13th Oxford Dysfluency Conference Awards

The Dave Rowley Award for International Initiatives

Dave Rowley served as ODC Chair and Co-Chair for many years before he passed away in 2015. Dave had many professional values, and one of them was international collaboration. He valued and encouraged new research, the creation of clinical and learning initiatives in under-resourced or developing countries, and collaborative working across countries and disciplines. The Dave Rowley Award for International Initiatives will be presented to an individual or international collaborative team that exemplifies Dave’s generous spirit, engaging fellowship, and international vision.

The Travers Reid Award

The Travers Reid award recognizes the contribution of research to the lives of children and young people who stammer. Life President of Action for Stammering Children, Travers was passionate and instrumental in ensuring children and families could access specialist support for stammering. Travers had a keen interest in research into stammering and was a great advocate of evidence-based practice. Travers passed away in 2019 and the award is made annually in his honor by Action for Stammering Children.

This award is for £300 and in 2023, it is open to any student (full or part time) whose research project has been completed within the last three years and has been accepted for presentation at the 13th Oxford Dysfluency Conference. Both oral and poster presenters are eligible to apply. Priority will be given to projects that focus on children or young people, or have application to those client groups.

Applicants are invited to submit their accepted conference abstract, together with a covering letter of recommendation from their supervisor, to Sharon Millard (please do not email credit card information under any circumstances), by 3rd September 2023. The Travers Reid Award Committee will base their decision on both the abstract and the presentation at the conference.  The award will be presented at the Closing Ceremony.
